“Can me/my band work with Utopian Music?” – Possibly, it largely depends on how good you or your band is! We’re always on the look out for up and coming talent, so use the links in the “contact” section and send us a demo (demos@utopianmusic.co.uk). If we like it, we’ll be in touch! “How do I send my demo, what do you want specifically?” – Any kind of demo will do, as long as we can hear it! Even if you’ve just recorded it on a tape-recorder, as long as it gives us a good enough idea of what you’re like as an artist, we will consider you. Some points to go by:
“It’s been (x) amount of time since I contacted you, did you not listen to my demo!!!” – Please rest assured that we listen to all demos and follow up all requests to work with us, we just simply don’t have the time to respond to all of them. If we feel we can work with you, we WILL be in touch. If we feel that you are just short of the mark, we will offer you advice about how you could improve to work with us. This may be as simple as suggesting you have a great voice but your band let you down musically. Please don’t take this personally, you asked! If however we are not interested, we do not have the time to respond to every single artist explaining our reasons. This may not be because we simply don’t think you’re good enough, it may be due to the fact we are currently not looking for any new signings. If you do not get a response, but then have some new material, or a new band, you could always try contacting us again. “Why won’t you work with me? I was down to the final 100 for (TV talent contest)/ I worked with (person in the music industry)”. – We are only interested in you as an artist and will not work with someone merely because of their past achievements or contacts. This would be a waste of our time and yours. “I found (artist’s) music being illegally distributed on a website, how can I report this?” – Please contact us directly regarding any such websites and we will contact them regarding this. Do not post any such websites publicly, even if you are pointing out that you disagree with their practices as this only publicises them. Do not attempt to contact them directly; we will deal with them ourselves.
“Your site is broken!! Help!” – If a section of our site is not working, please contact webmaster@utopianmusic.co.uk and we will endeavour to fix it as soon as possible. You must make clear exactly what the problem is, when it occurred and if it keeps happening. Please make sure it is not just a problem with your computer, if possible, try to check that the problem happens on another computer as well. “Why don’t you have a section about ‘x’ on your website”? – If you feel there is something missing on our website and we feel people would like to see it, suggest it to us. If it is something we feel should be there and we can do it, we will endeavour to provide it. “I clicked a link to (other website) on your site, but it is broken!” – If you clicked a link to a website we own/created that is broken, let us know specifically what the problem is. If it is a problem with YouTube/Facebook/MySpace/any other website that is beyond our control, we cannot do anything about this. Try contacting the support for that website. “The flash player doesn’t work; it just tells me I don’t have the right software!” – Some sections of our website require software such as Adobe Flash Player and will not work without them. If such software is missing, you should be provided with a link to download it. Please be aware, Utopian Music is not responsible for any problems arising from downloading such software and always ensure you are downloading from an official source. “Your website is rubbish, I could design a better one in my sleep!” – Whilst we welcome any feedback regarding our design work, please be assured that we have worked hard to ensure our website design is of the highest-possible quality and will ignore any random criticism of our website or any other design work. If you have any constructive suggestions, we are always keen to hear them.
“I really love (artist name)! Please tell me when their next album/single/tour is going to be announced!” – You can be sure that any information or news about any of our artists will be announced on this website, along with the related Facebook/MySpace/other social networking websites as soon as it is confirmed. “I heard that (artist name) is releasing this/playing this venue/etc on (random website), is this true?” – The internet is full of rumour and gossip, so if you hear anything about any of our artists, presume that it isn’t true until we announce it. Our websites will be the first place where any news will be announced, so you will be sure to hear about it if it is true. “I heard (artist) play this song/cover but I can’t find it anywhere! Can you send me a copy of it?” – Often an artist will play an unreleased song or a cover at a gig. For unreleased material, this will often be something an artist is working on and may or may not be on their next album, so keep your eyes peeled. We may also offer recordings/video of these performances on our YouTube/MySpace/Facebook pages, but we can’t make any guarantees. An artist may also play a one-off cover at a gig, but we often don’t have the rights to release any recordings of covers, so we can’t offer to send them to you. “When is (artist) going to play a gig near me?” – If one of our artists is playing a gig, it will be announced on their website/Facebook/MySpace, so you’ll find out there. If an artist isn’t booked to play anywhere near you, but we’re confident they’ll attract a crowd, we’ll try and get them to play there at some point. If you’re a promoter and you’re looking to book an artist, you can enquire at bookings@utopianmusic.co.uk It is also worth remembering that many of our artists have heavy touring schedules and can’t play in every single city! “Can I meet/get free tickets to see/be on the guestlist for (artist’s) gig?” – If you are an industry professional and we feel it beneficial for you to do so, we will get you backstage passes and the opportunity to meet the artist. For press enquiries, e-mail press@utopianmusic.co.uk “How can I contact (artist) to send them my fan-mail/paintings/poetry/thoughts/etc.” – You can contact artists via the links on their website/MySpace/Facebook/etc. Whilst all our artists are keen to receive your fan-mail, they cannot personally respond to all of it. Also note that any abusive/threatening fan-mail will be reported to the authorities. “(Artist) is rubbish, I don’t know what you were thinking when you signed them, you should drop them now!!!” – Again, whilst we enjoy feedback and comment’s regarding our artists, we ignore any such abusive comments. If you feel you can do better, please send us your demos, but please don’t waste our time with unconstructive criticism.
“Can I get work experience with Utopian Music?” – If we are offering any work experience or internships, they will be advertised on our website and appointment pages on websites such as GumTree. Please do not send us unsolicited CV’s unless we request them. “I offer (service) which I feel may help your company, are you interested?” – Utopian Music isn’t just on the look-out for talented musicians. If we feel your services may be of benefit to us, please let us know. This could range from graphic designers, producers, engineers, etc. Much like our artist policy, we will contact you if we are interested. We cannot however respond to every offer so please do not be offended if we do not reply. “I offer (service) but don’t want to work for you, I wish to remain freelance” – Again, if we are interested in your service, we will get back to you. You do not have to work for us; we offer various sub-contracting opportunities, which we can discuss with you if we are interested. “I wish to use your music for my TV show/film/project, how do I go about this?” – We offer various licensing opportunities for anyone wishing to use our music commercially, so please get in touch. Please note, it is illegal to use any of our music for commercial purposes without our permission. “I want to buy music from your company, how do I go about this?” – Our music is available for various channels. Our signed artists sell their music through their record label and therefore to the public through the usual channels. If an artist is signed, we cannot sell their music to you directly. If they are unsigned, we will only sell their music to you if we feel it is beneficial to them. Please contact us.
